|
Curriculum season is upon us once again, and if your mailbox is anything like mine, it is overflowing with homeschool catalogs. However, choosing the perfect program for your family doesn't have to be an overwhelming, mind-boggling experience! In this Issue:
The Real Secret to Choosing the Best CurriculumI'm a homeschooling parent just like you, and I can relate to the feelings of anxiety that go hand in hand with the search for the best homeschool curriculum. In fact, just last week I asked my husband if he felt sure we were on the right track in our journey to educate our children. As you probably guessed, I had just visited a homeschool friend, watched her children in action and looked through her "newer and better" homeschool materials. My husband asked me a simple question, "Where do you see our children as adults?" I told him I want my children to love the Lord and serve Him; to be great spouses, parents, friends and neigbors; and to work hard and enjoy the fruits of their labor. My husband then responded, "If those are truly your goals for our children, does it really matter what curriculum you use?" Friends, I can give you all of the tips and guidelines and planning worksheets I can type, and you will find some excellent resources below. But the truth about homeschool curriculum is - if we have a clear purpose and vision for our children's futures, it doesn't matter what program we use. There are few things more exciting to those of us who are curriculum junkies than flipping through homeschool catalogs, reading reviews, researching the latest and greatest products, and making plans for the next year. But the real secret to choosing the best homeschool curriculum is knowing what we truly want for our children, and realizing that our curriculum choices are only an extremely small part of what will get us there.
