We used Artistic Pursuits Book 1 for Grades K-3 in 2008.
Likes: I really like this program. I like that you can order all your supplies, fairly inexpensively, at the beginning of the year and not have to worry about having everything you need for an art lesson.
I like that it includes art history in each lesson. First you learn about the topic for the lesson (for example: artists look), then study a piece of art and talk about it, then the kids do their own assignment. There's also an example from a child for each assignment, which the kids really like to see.
The art materials chosen are great in that they tend to be easy to get ready, and not too messy. This is an art curriculum that actually gets done each week!
Dislikes: There are times that I feel like we're missing out on some of the creativity of an art class and some of the fun media and processes. However, for us at this stage, I'm glad to have something that doesn't take long to set up or clean up afterwards.

Likes: We loved looking at the professional quality photos included in the program, and the lessons that went along with each one. The lessons are very easy to understand and the kids really enjoyed them!

We have really enjoyed using Artistic Pursuits K-3 Book 1 with our Ancient History studies. Several of the projects correlate to the Core 1 Sonlight of Ancient History. We also enjoyed the variety of mediums involved.
The program includes photos of art work from various artists in each lesson so the children can learn art appreciation as well. This is especially helpful since we live in a very rural area with no access to an art museum and extremely slow internet access.
We were not able to finish the book last year, so we will continue this year 2008. I am looking forward to purchasing Book 2 since it will have more projects to go with our Ancient History Studies Core 2.
I highly recommend this program to all my friends, even people I don't know at the homeschool conventions!
