Easy for First Time Homeschooler

This is the first year of homeschooling my boys who are in kindergarten and fourth grade. The K-12 program is easy to follow and the record keeping is great. The only draw back is the literature, my boys love reading; and we found that the books provided did not hold their interest and the illustrations were awful. One of the poetry readings for my fourth grader (the actual poem wasn't even necessary for the lesson) included the "N" word, in which I've never had to explain to him, up until that very lesson. Next year I will use the school district summer reading list along with some of my chosen reads.
