I have used Hooked on Phonics Pre-Reading (2008), Kindergarten Learn to Read (2009) and currently using 1st grade Learn to Read (2009).
Likes: My son is doing great with this program. I have tried other programs and he loses interest. With Hooked on Phonics, he enjoys learning to read. I see a big improvement in him. I like the chart with stickers to track his progress. He gets excited when he puts a sticker on the chart after he has read something.
Dislike: I don't actually use the listening CD with him because I find that it distracts him. I just go through the workbook with him myself.

I have been using Hooked on Phonics since 2005, have used both of these tools with 2 of my children and am beginning on the 3rd child this year.
I like this curriculum because it has something for all different types of learners: audio cds/tapes, workbooks, flashcards, reading books and computer games.
The stories/books relate to the material just learned so it builds confidence for the learner. Also, you can set your own pace - slow down if you need to or accelerate as necessary.
I dislike that this curriculum can be expensive but it you can find it resale or at a discount store, it is worth it.

Product: Hooked on Phonics
Subject: Phonics and Reading
Levels Used: Master Reader
Dates Used:2008-2010
Likes: HOP is a computer phonics and reading program. Included are books and short stories.
#1 My kids loved playing the reading games.
#2 The short stories were very interesting.
#3 It worked! My two struggling readers learned to read and enjoyed it. Before moving on to the next level the student has to master the current level. The games and lessons were very engaging for 2 active students.
Dislikes: The only dislike I can think of would be the price. I borrowed this from my MIL so I didn't have to pay anything.

Product: Master Reader
Subject: Phonics
Levels Used: Master (2nd grade)
Dates Used: Aug-now
Likes: Computer time and reading at different times. Chart to keep track of where you are.
Dislikes: There are 40 lessons and she could do one every day. So the program may be to easy for her. She does not like the computer games. The reading lessons are really short also. They take maybe 3 min.
