We chose to use KONOS when our third child began first grade. It was easy to design my own science/history when there were just two kids, but since there are five kids here, we needed to teach everyone at once in several subject. KONOS has worked well.
We bought ours used off Ebay and got all three volumes for the cost of 1 1/2 volumes. We also invested in the timeline chart and characters.
With Konos, you can move as quickly or slowly as you like, and seek your own resources. It is not much work to pull together--just look over the unit ahead of time and pick what you want to do and gather appropriate library materials.
Most stuff can be done with household items and the kids have a blast. We access the internet for coordinating activities, too so it has been a dream! (note that we keep each child in their level of appropriate LA and math curriculum) This works great as co-op classes, too.

Product: KONOS
Subject: all
Levels Used: Volumes 1 and 2
Dates Used: 2006-2009
Likes: We bought vol 1 and used it for 2 years. That's about how long it takes to get through an entire volume. They are Bible based, which tied everything back to God which was amazing.
We loved Vol. 1. There was a lot of science involved. It got the kids active in their schooling. We weren't just sitting there, we were doing school. It was great. There were a lot (A LOT) of hands on projects to do. We made a giant ear and we got in it! My kids will never forget that! It is definitely geared toward ADD or LD children.
Volume 2 was very devoted to US history. My kids learned a lot about our country from Vol. 2. While there were other topics in vol. 2 it definitely gives kids a great grasp on our country and it's background.

Product: Konos Volume 1
Subject: Unit study
Levels Used: Volume 1
Dates Used: 2009-current
Likes: I like that the units are character based. We've tried other Christian unit studies but this seems to make more sense.
I was initially put off Konos as I thought I would have to sew and create for every activity, I was wrong. Finally I have found a unit study that fits our family.
Yes, it does require preparation, but it is not as difficult as I imagined. The activities we've done have done been expensive at all.
The authors have written enough original ideas about the subjects to make me feel it is a worthwhile buy. There is a planner that guides me when I want it but I can use the curriculum however it suits me.
My children love learning again and have become excited to do "school". They love the hands on activities, and there is a huge choice, so you do not need to do them all.
Dislikes: Some activities lack thorough explanation. That said my husband can figure them out- so maybe it is just me!
