La Clase Divertida or, the Fun Class, is program that teaches the kind of Spanish spoken in Latin America. The program is DVD based, allowing parents to watch the lessons with their children. Level I and Level II are geared towards K-6th grades, while Level III is written for students up to grade eight.
Level I focuses on introducing children to Spanish language and culture. Children learn the alphabet, numbers 1 -20, days of the week, greetings, select phrases and more. They will also listen to stories, try Mexican food and complete hands-on crafts, such as a piñata!
Level II begins to introduce conversation in every lesson. Children learn ordinal numbers, telling time, months, seasons, the numbers 0-200 and more. Children will also study Spain, take a DVD tour of St. Augustine, Florida (known for its Spanish influence), and learn Flamenco-style dancing.
Level III will reinforce the skills learned in previous levels, while introducing regular AR/ER/IR verbs, the verbs Ser and Estar, words for physical characteristics, how to form questions, numbers 200- 2,000,000, how to present the Gospel message in Spanish, and more. Students will conduct a map study of Central America and the Caribbean Sea, tour Costa Rica by DVD, try new foods and complete more crafts.
Each level comes in a kit that contains DVD video instruction, an audio CD, workbooks, a teacher's manual, and craft materials. The kits offer 30 weeks of instruction if used 3-4 days a week for 20- 28 minute lessons. What a fun way to learn a foreign language!
