I love these readers! We use them as a follow up to Bob books. Ruth Beechick's teachers guides are priceless! The TM makes these books phonics, vocab, and LA for the early years. We use Bob books till we get beyond decoding and then McGuffey's for LA and Vocab till they hit third grade when we pick up Primary Language Lessons. I love the moral themes in these books and that they are all in one and non consumable.

I use these wonderful, simple, books to supplement my beginner readers. The lessons are very short, easy to use, and not at all intimidating for the reluctant readers. The pictures are simple black and white, not flashy and busy. It is like stepping back into time, as these books were first published in 1849.

Likes: These readers are mostly the original McGuffey's readers. The changes are that some anti-Semitic and racist attitudes have been removed. This edited version is still as beautiful as the originals and just as worthy of being used in our homes today as they were beginning almost 200 years ago.
Dislikes: I have yet to find anything that I dislike about these readers!

These books are treasures. I will pass them on to the next generation to enjoy, whether or not they homeschool.
Nice, decent stories and writing.
Simplicity at its best - I love learning and teaching in the ways of the past.
Go at your own pace.
Heirlooms!
Dislikes:
Gosh, not any, really. They take up a bit of space in the house? lol.
