Amanda Bennett Unit Studies

We used Amanda Bennett Unit Studies for K-4 from 2010-1011.

Likes: for those who want help putting together a unit study... this is the way to go. Links provided, quick support, child friendly graphics, and so forth. If you want someone to do the work for you... this does the job.

Dislikes: very computer dependent, though LOTS of books are recommended, sometimes seems very stateside oriented (I'm Canadian)

ALL this information can be gleaned on-line for free... but that's kinda the point... Amanda markets this product as an easy to use, ready to use product... and that's who should use this product. IF you have the desire and aptitude to put a study together yourself do so... but if you want help... this is a very good aid in covering a variety of material and helping people think outside the box when considering a topic area.

Not all they're cracked up to be...

Honestly, there is no real "content" included in many of Amanda Bennett's unit studies. You have to depend on the links (that links to other people's work- I could look those up myself for free) working correctly. Quite a few of the links I tried had gone dead. Other than that, the rest was okay. The questions and activities were decent, but again, not as good as other unit studies I have seen.

What a way to learn!

Levels Used: Horses, Winter Olympics
Dates Used: 2006, 2008

Likes: So easy to use! Just open the computer document, read the page, click on the link and learn! There are two levels in the document, so if your younger child is desiring more info, it's right there. There are so many links to explore. Also, I love the activity ideas and resource lists.

Dislikes: Sometimes links no longer work (which is the nature of the internet), but Amanda does run a yahoo group and responds to emails quickly if there is a problem.

Could be More Thorough

I have used the Christmas and Easter books. I felt that her books were not what I needed at the time, because of all the research that I had to do ahead of time. I didn't feel that her books were thorough enough.
