I used Bob Books when my son began reading and my daughter was beginning to read as well. They helped my son build his confidence as he "taught" his sister how to sound out words and to read along. They enjoyed coloring the pages of a book after they had mastered it together. These books helped my son gain confidence in a skill he was unsure of while bringing my kids together in a bonding time that was precious to watch and fun for both of them (and for me).

Likes: BOB books have simple black and white print that starts with very basic phonics. The drawings are cute and do not distract the child. Each little book builds upon the last book. Great first books to use with Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. Each of my children started these books around age 4-1/2. When they would read one to me, then they could not wait to read it to anyone that would listen.
Dislikes: A bit costly in my opinion.

Likes: I taught my son to read his first book in one day!!!
Dislikes: I think that the pictures sometimes made my son know what words were on the page. I eventually took the words from the books and made flashcards for him.
