Rod and Staff Reading and Phonics

Rod and Staff reading and phonics program for grades 1 and 2 are awesome. I have used it with my 2 oldest kids and intend on using with my youngest.

It breaks everything down into lessons. There are 30 lessons per unit with a total of 5 units for phonics and a separate set of units for reading. The reading program consists of the workbook, reader and worksheets. The reader goes with the words taught in the workbook and asks comprehension question to make sure the child has an understanding of what they read. The reading is short so the the child won't get bored when just learning to read. The worksheets are fun and usually consist of coloring, cutting and pasting.

The one recommendation I would make is to make sure you purchase the teacher's manual because most of the directions to complete the workbooks are not printed in the student books until 2nd grade.

Rod and Staff are very reasonably priced and very effective.
