Likes: Very easy-- Can be used for a beginning confident reader. Each lesson has different practice exercises and activities, such as letter scrambles, missing words, word shapes, alphabetizing, etc. Each lessons has a theme, such as "short a sound," "sh and ch words" and "ending in x, k, and p." There are reviews after 4 lessons.

Dislikes: I used it because it was a recommendation from a teaching style I was following. But it was too easy for my son. He flew through it at age 6, but he was reading at a higher grade level when I started the book. I have a feeling my daughter will gain confidence using it this year (she's a young first grader).

Likes: The list words were practical words that children should know and will use in writing. The book teaches the spelling words with the rules so they make sense and are easily retained. The lessons are broken down into daily activities which is good for retention. In addition, the book teaches basic proofreading and dictionary skill.

Dislikes: The only thing I can think of that I did not like about this book is that the paper was a bit thin so if the children had to erase more than once the paper would tear. THAT'S IT! We loved this book.
