Product: The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading
Subject: Phonics
Levels Used: K-2nd
Dates Used: 2008-2009
Likes: It is very thorough. It's a gradual progression constantly adding more and more each lesson. You can move at any speed you want. It is inexpensive, all you need is this one book and a chalkboard. I use it along with another curriculum to make sure there are no holes.
Dislikes: It's very basic. No cute pictures of colorful penguins.

Product: Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading
Subject: Reading/Phonics
Levels Used: Basic, and later lessons for my reading son as a review and to teach as well
Dates Used: Spring 2008-current
Likes: Scripted out and makes it easy to teach a child at any level. Has rhymes to remember the sounds of the letters. Lessons build on the previous lessons to reinforce what has been taught.
Dislikes: It is hard to "jump in" at a later time-- there is no assessment of levels (like in Spelling Power).

Product: The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading
Subject: Reading
Levels Used: K
Dates Used: 2004
Likes: The book was easy to follow. The lessons were quick and easy to understand. The book was well written.
Dislikes: My children just did not learn to read this way. I have spoken to other parents who LOVE this book and their children learned to read quickly with this book. My children did not respond well to it and did better with phonics.
