Product: Trisms History Makers
Subject: Overview of history with focus on Scientists, Explorers, and Inventions.
Levels Used: 6th and 8th grade
Dates Used: 2008
Likes: I like that Trisms incorporates history, literature, writing, and geography into one subject. Trisms is research based so we can use materials we already own at home plus supplement with what we find at the library. Since I like to include both children whenever I can, it's very easy for me to modify the program for my younger child.
Dislikes: There are generic questionnaires for each subject (scientist, inventions, explorers). We found the questionnaires to be a little "restrictive" so we modified how we record the information we find. Just like all homeschool programs, sometimes you need to tweak things to make them work for your family.

Product: History Makers; Discovering the Ancient World
Subject: Unit Study--history, art history, music history, geography, language arts (science, but we do not use that component)
Levels Used: 8th/9th grade
Dates Used: 2007/2008; currently DAW
Likes: Thorough analysis of civilization, music, art, and architecture (DAW) using research questionnaires, map work and timelines. Language arts is based on the Institute for Excellence in Writing, and includes video analysis and vocabulary as well.
Dislikes: Need to augment with grammar (if necessary), math, and science, since the science is not "lab based," as you would expect for a high school student.
